So far this year, in automotive class, we have covered suspension, brakes, steering, cooling systems, and combustion chambers. In these lessons, we focus on parts identification, proper labeling of components and their functions, and how this applies to everyday life. We have maintained the school cars and are fixing the 4x4 system and suspension on the school's Gator.
One of the main goals of teaching students automotive maintenance is to give them the confidence to repair their vehicles and, in the process, save them a lot of money. While some students are taking the automotive class to start their future careers in the automotive industry, others are just interested in learning something new that can help them in life. In any case, I encourage all students to give it a chance and see how much they can learn in technical skills here in Ash Fork or by taking classes at CTE or YC. You never know what might be something you love and want to do as your career unless you try it.
On another note, we are just starting this program at Ash Fork. We could still use any extra automotive tools or toolboxes, even the jar of bolts you might have lying around. If you do and are willing to donate them to our growing auto shop class, we would love to accept them and use them in training students for success. Please email me, Robert Broehm, directly, and we can determine how and when to get the tools to the shop. (rbroehm@afjusd.org) Thank you all for your support of Ash Fork Schools!
