AFJUSD Spartans

During this Quarter, we had the opportunity to take six students to compete in a welding competition against 20 other schools from around Arizona. The welding competition was a 2-day event totaling 13 hours of build time.

This year’s competition design was the ultimate welding table. The table had multiple removable attachments and had to adjust from a height of 32” to 46”. We had to bring all our tools and materials to the West Mech School parking lot in Buckeye, AZ, where we had four parking spots to work out of to build the table. The students did a great job with the build, completing it on time without a minute to spare.

After debriefing from the competition, we have decided to compete in this competition every year. Everyone involved had a great time and learned a great deal about time management and the importance of squaring things up right the first time so that later in the build, everything fits together.

Special thanks to Seth Staple for chaperoning and driving one of the welding supply trailers with me. Also, Thanks to Sue Atkinson for the rooms and for getting all the funds in order so we can make this fantastic trip for our students.
