For the Christmas Spirit and tying in some fun decorations into our class instruction as we were getting ready for the holiday season, we learned about snowflake creation. The students have learned about states of matter and different ways in which the world around us influence states of matter.
We have also talked about heat transfer, and how we get heat on our earth from radiation that comes from the sun. The warmth that heats up the surface also heats up gas particles which then causes convection currents in our atmosphere. We have also learned about the water cycle a little bit and how Condensation in the clouds leads to precipitation.
No two snowflakes are the same, and as you can see in this picture, the two snowflakes that the kids made are the same. When snowflakes form crystallization happens and so it made for a fun way to tie in states of matter and heat transfer as we decorated for this holiday season.
