The 2024-2025 school year is the first year for the Ash Fork School District Automotive Class. The automotive class aims to help students learn automotive mechanics, safety, and customer service. We focused on safety in the shop and around the vehicles at the start of the quarter. The automotive students have all worked on and received their OSHA 10 Certification. Further into the quarter, we filled our shop time with tire changes and vehicle inspections. Also, we have started a tear-down of the school Gator. It will get new paint and bodywork, and the auto shop class will fix the suspension and steering. Our goal is to make it better than the factory! We have exciting plans for the automotive class, including more hands-on projects and potential collaborations with local businesses.
In the welding classes, we started the year with a new set of welding students learning all about safety and working to get their OSHA 10 certifications. Once they are done with OSHA, the students start with cutting and grinding plates. Once the students are ready, we move on to GMAW to get comfortable with the PPE, sparks, and heat. Welding year 2 students are working on projects, including finishing the pushcart that will be entered into a race later this year. Students are also working on test plates and preparing for the welding test in November.
