This quarter the welding classes worked on projects!
First, we had our Skills USA team continue building their push car. At this stage, we are working out the steering and suspension. We are building this car for the September race in Page, AZ, competing against other welding classes around AZ.
We have also worked on a picnic table and bench for the little kid’s playground. The students had to design and build the whole thing without blueprints to help. In addition, we worked on advanced skills in welding by practicing TIG (GTAW) welding. TIG (GTAW) is a process that the students find fun and frustrating. We will be diving deeper in the next school year on the TIG machines.
We also received extra funding from Mountain Institute (CTED) to purchase a tubing bender to add to the shop! After calling a few manufacturers, I found Rouge Fabrication was willing to help us with the purchase; they provided the machine and bending dies from 1” up to 2” for the exact amount we had to spend, giving us a significant discount on everything needed to be successful in our fabrication goals.
