This quarter in middle school reading, we finished learning the last four standards of the year. This quarter, our reading skills focused on identifying the author's opinions and how they distinguished their views from others. Of all the reading skills the students have learned this year, distinguishing differences of views and identifying support for those opinions will continue to help them the most as they grow with social media, political debates, and verifying information from the news.
In writing, students worked on fixing an argumentative essay on travel. By fixing an already-written essay, students applied their knowledge of essay components to find the strong and weak areas of the essay. Students then fixed the weak areas. Students will use these skills next month to write their essays for state testing.
Looking forward to next quarter, students will write essays and review weaker reading skills. During this time, students will have an opportunity to build their assignments and complete work independently. There will be more information coming about 4th quarter grades after spring break.
