Here in welding, we have had an exciting quarter! This quarter, we have learned more about SMAW and have started projects. We took a deeper dive into the welding electrode AC vs. DC and positive vs. negative electrode. Also, we learned what rod to choose for different circumstances and how to measure the size of an electrode.
This quarter's students have been able to do some personal welding projects, including weight room tools, decorations, muffler installs, tailpipe tips, and coat hangers. The Skills USA Team has started building a Soapbox car for future racing. They designed the car and are fabricating the frame and roll bars. In the last quarter, we hope to complete the steering and suspension.
We also have two classes making a picnic table and a bench for the little kids' playground. They had to design and cut every piece, and we are currently working on welding the frames and bases. Next quarter, we will finish the table and bench with some nice, sealed wood.
