Arizona AASA Assessment

Dear Ash Fork Families,

We have finally made it to the 4th quarter of the school year! Along with warmer weather, the 4th quarter also brings state testing. Please take some time to read the vital testing information to prepare for the state tests coming up in April.

What are our state assessments?

The state assessments are the AASA Assessment, the AZSci, the ACT Aspire, and the ACT.

What is the AASA Assessment?

The AASA is the statewide achievement test for grades 3-8.

What is the AZSci?

The AZSci is the state science assessment for grades 5, 8, and 11.

What is the ACT Aspire?

The ACT Aspire is the statewide high school achievement test for 9th grade.

What is the ACT?

The ACT is the statewide high school achievement test for 11th grade.

What do the assessments do?

The assessments measure how well children perform in reading, math, and science. The testing results allow the state of Arizona, teachers, parents, and students to monitor academic progress.

What tests are included in the assessments?

The tests include a writing test, reading test, and math test. There is also a science test for 5th grade, 8th grade, and 11th grade.

When will my student take their tests?

3rd Graders will be testing on 4/10, 4/17, and 4/24

4th Graders will be testing on 4/11, 4/18, and 4/25

11th Graders will be testing on 4/4 and 4/11

**Testing dates will also be posted on the events page of the school's website.**

What can I do to help my student do their best?

  • Try to ensure your child is attending school as much as possible so they can get help from their teachers.
  • Talk to your child each night about what they have been learning in class. Ask them to teach you something they learned.
  • Ensure your child gets a good night's sleep before their test day.

What will the school be doing to help my student do their best?

  • Teachers will be going over practice tests with students to familiarize them with the testing program and features.
  • Teachers will use benchmark data to review the standards that students need the most help with before testing.
  • Teachers will be providing multiple opportunities to practice previously taught standards.
  • Teachers will be going over test-taking strategies students can use while they test.

It is hard to believe that the school year ends in less than two months! As a community, we have put in a lot of work. Let us continue to finish strong, and if you have any other questions about testing, don't hesitate to get in touch with your child's teachers.

Sincerely,

Natalie Broehm
